Install asks about secondary hard disk?
« on: January 03, 2014, 12:36:12 PM »
Trying to help another district - same Acer Aspire V5-131 we have, the ubermix install (option 1) asks to configure the primary and secondary hard drive. Never seen any mention of a secondary drive.

When the user answers yes and the process completes, the system boots to a purple screen and hangs.

He also can no longer mount the USB key.

Any thoughts?  Could it be seeing the USB as the primary or secondary?

It appears that the key (8G sandisk) does not recognize the local HD.  Kingston16G so far no problem.

We just went through a huge headache with this same problem and finally figured out the issue.  Our older 8GB Cruzer Blades reported as removable and the newer versions do not.  Since the installer sees the flash drive as fixed it will overwrite itself and corrupt both the installation on the HDD and the files on the flash drive.  The cause is a change in the firmware on the newer drives and can be read about here:

http://aussiestorageblog.wordpress.com/2013/11/11/your-sandisk-usb-stick-is-no-longer-removable-and-its-microsofts-fault/

Unfortunately there is no fix to flip the removable bit on the new Sandisk drives at this time.  I can see this being a bigger problem moving forward as more and more flash drives out in the wild will have this same configuration.  Is it possible to alter the script to identify the flash drive some other way? (potentially by size?)
