Acer V5 screen goes white?
« on: May 07, 2013, 03:08:57 PM »
Just about got our image ready for production.  Noticing that when left alone the screen goes white.  Does not appear to have xscreensaver or anything similar installed (which is fine - they suck up power).  I can foresee this being a complaint post-deployment.  Any ideas what I should be looking for to fix this?  I need to upload the image to CDW asap to ensure arrival before June 30 :/

Did you do the brightness fix http://wiki.ubermix.org/page/Brightness_controls? Are the brightness controls working?

I did install it. It fixed the initial problem with very dim display.  Oddly enough the controls do not work.

echo <integer from 1-255> > /sys/class/backlight/radeon_b10/brightness changes it

keyboard controls themselves don't work.

Sounds like it didn't take. Look at /ro/boot/grub/grub.cfg and see if there is " acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor" on the linux line under "Normal Boot".

Turns out this was a new model (V5-121) with an AMD chip in it. Installing the AMD proprietary drivers solves the problem: http://wiki.ubermix.org/page/AMD_Video_Acceleration
