General Support / Install asks about secondary hard disk?

Trying to help another district - same Acer Aspire V5-131 we have, the ubermix install (option 1) asks to configure the primary and secondary hard drive. Never seen any mention of a secondary drive.

When the user answers yes and the process completes, the system boots to a purple screen and hangs.

He also can no longer mount the USB key.

Any thoughts?  Could it be seeing the USB as the primary or secondary?

Each school site is being issued a few "spare" netbooks for student use when one of the production units is out of production (repair, etc).

Our auto update script assigns printers based on hostname, which contains coding for the school site and room number so that we can accurately assign a printer to the device.

With spares being issued by school site as opposed to room, what's the best way to quickly assign an accurate hostname that follows our naming convention that is also teacher-friendly?

Is it best to just issue an ubermix key and hope they get it correct (after some training of course) or

We're currently assigning printers by hostname using the update.sh script.  We're looking at how to have hot spares ready, which is not a big issue until it comes to printing.  Has anyone dealt with this yet?  We're trying to eliminate the need for a visit from a tech, and also eliminate the need to train teachers on the hostname setting process.

Any thoughts?

Trying the .dat files on th ekey to see if that's all there is to it.  if so updating just got real easy, (almost) regardless of disk size.

Just trying to save some time.  Is it possible to edit certain files on the key so that a key created from a larger HD can be used on a smaller HD?

And...  I am a moron.  Or I must be.  I could swear the user I created was in the audio group.  I was wrong.  Need to test again from factory restore and make sure that the local user is still in audio group.

I may start from scratch again.  If not something with the kernel, that could at least let me know if this this is a self-inflicted wound or not.

I've found that if the user scrolls down too far with a different theme that the launcher disappears and I can't get it back without restarting lightdm.  Making the nouveau or vouveau-hd theme mandatory solves that issue.

Once I booted to generic it worked, thought a restore might do the trick... sorta:  generic kernel works, aufs does not.

thought it was fixed.  the issue is only in the aufs kernel.  generic works fine...
