Did you resize the ubermix key partition according to the instructions at /home/user/Sites/ubermix/site/customization.html? Remember that the original ubermix-key2.x.img file is only just big enough to store a default install. It doesn't automatically expand to fill up the available space on the usb key unless you follow the steps at the bottom of the customization page.

Is the key maybe running out of space? Are you seeing EOF errors when the simple updates get applied?

If you need to demonstrate, why not just use the VM? It's technically possible to install it dual boot, but less than trivial to get it installed due to the aforementioned partition layout.

Might be a video card issue. Try pressing esc when you see the little person at the bottom, then F6 (other options) and choose the nomodeset option. Press esc one more time, then enter to boot.

You might need to boot them all once in generic mode, just so that the settings get all settled.

I assume you are working with version 1.x. Files and folders is hardcoded into the launcher, so there is no way to remove it completely.

Try booting in generic mode once and see if it sticks stops asking for a password. Let me know how it goes.

Are you getting an error about java needing to be updated, or is something not working? If it is the latter, you can always install the official Oracle Java by following the directions here: http://forums.ubermix.org//index.php/topic,3.msg197.html#msg197

If you just want to update, you can open Synaptic, click Reload to update its indexes, and search for openjdk-7-jre . Or, from the command line, type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre

You should be able to press esc when you see the little person at the bottom of the screen to set boot options.

The Activities menu doesn't draw all the icons until you click it the first time, so on a particularly slow system there can be a noticeable delay. Working on getting it to handle this on first load to mask the delay, but not quite working yet.
