General Support / Re: Creating a custom image
« on: June 09, 2014, 01:26:27 PM »
So a further note here, redid the entire operation from scratch, installed a new key followed the instructions to modify as in my prior post, justa adding the items listed there (minus the GAPPS icons). This time it boots to agraphical interface, but no menus appear, it is just the desktop I had set, and a bar at the bottom of the screen with the time in it, can't click on the desktop, no menus, nothing.

What step am i missing on making my own custom image? i really want to be able to modify the default by adding these few things, so that I do not have to modify 32 machines after install. There must be a mising step or something in the instructions for changing the base image, or adding the 32 bit libraries is breaking it.

Does anyone know if the smarter balanced browser will run i64 bit next year, and when it will be available. Adding the browser to 32 machines will be time consuming and I would like to get this process figured out this summer so I can start in September with a completely functional Ubermix key for my labs.

General Support / Creating a custom image
« on: June 06, 2014, 01:09:38 PM »
I followed the steps in the Rebuilidng the Base Image part of the Customization page. In essence all I added to the image were:
  • The Smarter Balanced Browser
  • The 32 bit libraries needed to make it run
  • The GAPPS icons
  • I modified the browser (firefox and chrome) homepages to open to my district home page
  • The Reminna RDP client to allow access to Windows terminal servers

After I did all these changes I rebooted it so I could run the advanced install, and chose: When the menu appears, select option "5. Expert Options" From the next menu, select option "1. Update the image on the key using this machine as a model".

I waited until it was finished, rebooted properly, but when i use the newly created key, it boots looking normal, but after the Ubuntu splash screen, i just get a cursor in the top left of the screen and nothing else, does not boot to the desktop. I am really wanting to create a boot key that has all my changes so that I can deploy to some labs. The changes are too many to retro on a basic install, mostly the smarter balanced changes.

Any idea what causes this?

I did create a different key by not going into the rebuilding bas image mode, but rather making the changes listed above, and then making a key from this model, but none of the software was installed, although the browser home pages were still there.

I have dell optiplex 620 USFF models in which the graphics only displays 1024x768. My other optiplex 620 and 520 models will display 1280x1024. Is this just a problem with this model and can i update a driver to get the better reolution.

General Support / Creating a lab key

First of all, thank you to the development team that has put together this new version of Ubermix. I find that it is a great release. I am still trying to figure out how to create a key that will be configured the way I want to install in my labs. If i am simply adding SBAC and making some changes to chrome and firefox for home pages, and adding printers, which is the best option to create a new key. It seems like the chrome and firefox changes stick on the new key with the option 'use this model to build a new key' but the smarter balanced browser does not.

General Support / Re: iTalc on Ubermix 2

No authentication key files were found or your current ones are outdated. Please create new key files using the iTALC Management Console. Alternatively set up logon authentication using the iTALC Management Console. Otherwise you won't be able to access computers using iTALC.

this is the error i get after installing the italc master

General Support / iTalc on Ubermix 2
« on: June 04, 2014, 06:52:41 PM »
Is iTalc still installed on Ubermix 2? It does not seem to be part of the install and when I added it, i cannot get it to run. What are the steps to get it to run correctly on version 2?

General Discussion / Ubermix 2.0
« on: June 04, 2014, 12:14:58 PM »
I just downloaded and installed the newest version 2.0 and i really like the changes, working fine on Dell Optiplex 520's so far. Added the SBAC browser for testing and also the Oregon OAKS browser, finally got them to run by adding the 32 bit libraries as posted earlier by another user. I can't seem to get the Google Apps icons to work as posted earlier. After downloading and double-clicking them nothing seems to happen. As we are a mostly google district with ubermix and chromebooks I would love to get this all added this summer to my Elementary and Middle school labs.

What step am i missing on this install?
