Hardware Specific / Travelmate B115 Wireless
« on: May 20, 2015, 08:15:59 PM »
Group.......

We are working with Travelmate B115 units that have the Intel 7260 AC wifi.  We have an Aruba wireless system (N).  We are seeing frequent failure to connect to the wireless.  Turning wifi off/on sometimes resolves as does restarting the machine at times.  There is plenty of wireless coverage in the area and we've also seen the same behavior using other WAPs for testing.

Has anyone run across this sort of behavior and found a solution?

Thanks for all.

Hardware Specific / Travelmate B115 Touchpad
« on: May 20, 2015, 08:12:19 PM »
Group......

I'm running Ubermix 2.21 with updates installed on a group of Travelmate B115-M computers.  I've set the touchpad to basic in the BIOS to allow the right-click to work.  We are now seeing a situation where the mouse begins to jump all over the screen.......even with your hand removed completely from the unit.  At times the mouse will settle down enough to try clicking again, but overall, the behavior returns and makes the unit unusable.  Has anyone seen this behavior?

Thanks very much.

General Support / Network At Times Does Not Connect After Sleep
« on: September 21, 2014, 02:13:19 PM »
Group........

We are encountering a situation where machines do not reactivate the network properly after sleep.  When this occurs, it generally works to manually turn the wireless off and then back on, but at times a reboot seems to be the only fix.  We have tried to use a script to force the network awake, which seemed to improve things, but not fix completely.  Has anyone run into a similar situation?

Hardware
Acer Travelmate B113 with Intel Centrino NIC

Ubermix ver: 2.1

Script we have attempted to use in /etc/pm/sleep.d

#!/bin/bash
case "$1" in
thaw|resume)
nmcli nm sleep false
;;
*)
;;
esac
exit $?

General Support / 2.1 Intermittent Hang After aufs
« on: August 31, 2014, 10:52:49 AM »
Group........

We have an intermittent issue on a variety of hardware where the system hangs after applying aufs.  The screen displays setting aufs and "done" and then sits with the a frozen cursor.  The usual b/h seems to be "done" followed by briefly flashing cursor and then progress.  Crashing the system and starting again usually gets it past this issue, though at times it takes a couple of reboots.  Anyone else run into this or have a solution?

Thanks,
David

General Support / Delay on first click of Activities 2.04L
« on: July 26, 2014, 09:55:18 AM »
Group.......

I've only been able to test on one older laptop model, but has anyone else seen a 10+ second delay the first time you click on Activities with the Mate desktop on 2.04L?  Once it generates the Activities the first time, it is quick.  It just seems that something is happening in the background during that first click that delays the display of the menu.

Thanks,
David

General Support / Default to USB Headset When Attached
« on: May 30, 2014, 01:55:19 PM »
(Moved to support rather than general discussion)

Group.......

For some reading programs and for state testing, we have a need to use USB headsets.  Is there  a way to have the system default to the headset for both input and output when it is present?  We have been going to the sound settings and changing the input/output, but it would be great to automate if possible.

Thanks for all,
David

General Support / Firefox Bookmarks
« on: December 19, 2013, 09:50:02 AM »
Discovered that if we set bookmarks in Firefox, they are not retained when deploying Ubermix to a new machine.  However, if we fully boot that new installation and then reboot and apply simple updates again....the bookmarks appear.  Is there some difference in the way simple updates are applied as part of a fresh install as opposed to when applied on their own?  This only seems to occur in Firefox, Chrome bookmarks do transfer.

General Support / Windows Share Access from Files and Folders Menu
« on: October 24, 2013, 11:28:56 AM »
After mounting a Windows share and creating a bookmark.  I am able to access it just fine from the sidebar of Nautilus (once I've gone to Home or Documents, etc.).  If I go back to the Files & Folders group from the main launch page, I see the share listed as a folder.  However, if I try and click there, I get a trio of errors which seem to indicate that it is trying to access the file directory as 3 different shares (all of which fail).  If I OK past all of the errors and go to Home or some other folder, I am fine to get to the share from the sidebar.

It appears to be the way that the system is handling the share name in the .gvfs directory.....seeing the spaces in the name as indicating 3 different shares instead of a single name.
When I do an ls of /home/user/.gvfs it shows
mestudentshare on metolius
original mount command was
smb://metoluis/mestudentshare

General Support / SMARTNotebook and Drivers?
« on: October 19, 2013, 09:39:00 PM »
Has anyone worked with SMARTNotebook on Ubermix 1.31?  I am able to load the SMART .debs on a standard Ubuntu install, but when I do so on my Ubermix machine, it removes a bunch of xorg components and then on a reboot I get nothing but a text login prompt.  Just curious if anyone has attempted the SMART install and had success.

Thank you,
David

Q&A / Close Unresponsive Application
« on: October 06, 2013, 11:13:01 PM »
Group.......

Any quick way to close unresponsive applications?  I've had some scripts kill browser sessions to the point that the system nearly locks completely.  Opening a terminal and using pkill works, but I'm wondering if there is something easier for students/teachers in the classroom?

Thank you very much.

General Support / 1.3 LibreOffice corrupt files
« on: September 26, 2013, 07:13:35 PM »
When using LibreOffice on 1.3, I am unable to reopen files that I have saved to Samba network folders.  I am able to see the files and can save to the share, but when I attempt to open, I get the message posted below.  Has anyone else run into this?  I gather is a LibreOffice / smbclient issue, but am hoping someone has found a fix.....

The file 'Thursday.odt' is corrupt and therefore cannot be opened. LibreOffice can try to repair the file.

The corruption could be the result of document manipulation or of structural document damage due to data transmission.

We recommend that you do not trust the content of the repaired document.
Execution of macros is disabled for this document.

Should LibreOffice repair the file?

Hardware Specific / Wireless -- Lenovo S10 e
« on: April 15, 2013, 03:14:59 PM »
Group.....

I have a batch of Lenovo S10e Ideapads that I'm hoping to use with Ubermix.  The problem seems to be wireless.  I've downloaded and installed the firmware-b43-lpphy-installer for the Broadcom wireless card.  The challenge is that I cannot get the network to reconnect automatically on reboot.

If I go into network configurations and create a new wireless entry for my WPA network, I am then able to connect.  On reboot....I'm only able to get the connection to come back up if I go to "connect to hidden wireless network" (it isn't hidden) and then select the connection I previously configured.

Any way to get this connection to hold and automatically connect on boot?

Thank you very much,
David
