Title: WIndows domain
Post by: MTGreaver on November 26, 2013, 12:50:22 PM
If I have students who would like to have their student folders on the file server that they are supposed to be saving their documents to available to them, would it be best to install and set up centrify express and have them join the domain?  Would it be best to set up something like a mapped drive on the laptop?

I installed centrify express on one and got the program to connect to the domain. After I restarted, though, only one domain account would actually log in.  It did do something that looked like it was downloading user accounts from the active directory server after I did something (and don't remember what).  Then, when I made a key from that laptop and updated other laptops from that key, they would not finish starting up.  Anyone have any idea where I went wrong?  I know the wiki documentation is wrong.

How would I go about connecting the user folders to that individual student's AD account?

I've generally found it easiest to teach the kids to connect to their server shares on their own. All they have to do is open any folder and choose File:Connect to server... A whole lot easier than trying to join the domain, etc.

I would bet the issue with other machines has something to do with joining the machine to the domain - you probably don't want to do any of the authentication work on your master system prior to imaging it.

If you decide to work on this and are able to get it all sorted out, please update the wiki for us  :)
