I am using UberMix 1.082 on a variety of both older laptops and desktop that I donate to students. It has been working great on 99% of all the systems on which it is installed.
However, I've run into a problem that is obviously a video card drive issue. When the system boots, the text menus are missing many letters. When I go to a terminal and type "sudo restart lightdm" everything comes back to normal. I've tried putting "nomodeset" as suggested places in grub (as per other forum posts), but all it does is come up in 640x480 resolution.
The computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 with an Intel Corporation 82845G/GL on board video card (as per lspci).
Any suggestions?

missing letters ? The OS is in english or in another language ?
-
Yes, missing letters especially from the upper right menu, including the menu dropdowns.
The OS is English. I've used this same flash drive many times to install, but I also tried a new download and a new flash drive. No difference.

This is weird. ¿could you post a screenshot of the screen?
The missing fonts are always the same, or it's a random issue ?

This might be better with ubermix 1.3. However, it does sound like the display you are using is kicking out bad EDID and causing the driver to default to 640x480. Had a similar problem with NVidia graphics on an older monitor, and had to extract the EDID from a newer monitor to fix. Was a huge pain, and only works with NVidia, so likely wouldn't help much here.

I have a similar D2400 here and have been unable to reproduce the problem.

Thanks for your help. Since this is the only system that has this problem out of say 250 different computers, I installed Linux Mint 9 which worked fine with the video card and monitor. I look forward to using UM 1.3.
