Hi people!
If you have to customize your browser deployment, this page is very useful:
http://www.chromium.org/administrators

Also, this guide helps:

General Support / Re: 1.3 LibreOffice corrupt files
« on: January 04, 2014, 04:37:08 PM »
I was suffering a similar problem, all the libreoffice documents were corrupted when saving to a samba share.
In /etc/fstab my share mounting instructions are:
//1xx.xx.x.xxx/<share_name_or_IP_address> /mnt/<foldername> cifs auto,iocharset=utf8,nobrl,username=<windows user name>,password=<windows network password>,_netdev,uid=<username>,gid=<group_id> 0 0

It's seems that the "nobrl" option do the magic  :)

Did you format the hdd first ?
In your first boot, go to expert options, and erase the hdd. (i don't remember if "erase" is the correct name, sorry)
It will wipe your hdd. Maybe you have some kind of partition scheme left over from other OS.

You need at least 4 Gb to install ubermix.
If your eepc it's the 2 gb version, you cannot use it for ubermix.

They like word and excel, it works perfect for them, so using another soft generates resistance. Worse, the file format problems created a "libreoffice sucks" attitude.
It's my fault, i made the change without getting the teachers in the loop, bad planning on my side.

Firefox stores bookmarks on the /home/user/.mozilla/ directory.
The home partition is erased every time a new install is done, so you must write a simple script to update or download the standart profile folder to the /home/user/.mozilla folder.

Hardware Specific / Re: Installing to Dell lattitude 505

Its 512. Have you tried another ubermix version ? newer ones use an updated kernel that doesn't like old machines.

Any clever solution to MS office bad support of odt files ? I'm using old doc format by default, but teachers complains that kids files  give problems when opened.
I don't have the bandwith to switch to google docs
Thanks

After googling your laptop specs, it says that RAM it's only 256 Mb. If that it's correct, you will have to find another distro, your hardware is below ubermix requirements.

Q&A / Re: Need help deploying Ubermix
« on: November 28, 2013, 10:40:41 AM »
Hi Kirbz, did you follow the wiki instructions ?
You have to boot the net following this:
1. Reboot the computer and press ESC immediately after your computer manufacturer's splash screen disappears (you should see a flashing cursor in the top left corner for a few seconds - press the escape key within 3 seconds to view the menu.)
2. Select "Normal Boot" from the menu (but don't press enter) and press the "e" key on your keyboard
3. Select the line in the box that begins with the word "initrd" and move the cursor to the end of the line. Backspace over the four letters "aufs" and replace them with "generic". Do not add any spaces.
4. Then press "ctrl+x" on your keyboard to boot

Then, make any changes you like, and shutdown your net.

Once this is complete, you will need to do some prep work before creating the image. Do the following:
Insert your ubermix-install key and reboot your system, booting from the usb key in the same fashion as you did when you originally installed the system (see Download & Install for details.)
When the menu appears, select option "5. Expert Options"
From the next menu, select option "1. Update the image on the key using this machine as a model". Note that this process takes a fair amount of time. Since most systems will turn off their displays after a brief period of inactivity, you may find that your screen goes black unexpectedly. If that happens, simply press a "shift" or "ctrl" key to wake the screen back up.

General Discussion / Re: purging unused locale data
« on: November 13, 2013, 06:16:38 PM »
take care with localepurge. I prefer to do a little tuning with bleatch.
localepurge only works with new packages, it doesn't purge the old ones, so to gain a little space you need to uninstall all the ubermix packages, install localepurge, and reinstall everything.

Jim: It's still on english.
I resized the base partition, applied the patch, and then changed the language.
All is translated, with the exception of the icons and groups names.
Thanks,
Juan
