USB boots into GRUB instead of menu

(1/3) > >>

ssexton:
We have successfully installed from the USB key ubermix on a set of Dell Latitude D610. We are now moving on to start working with a set of Earthwalk ebuddy 8.6.  When we try to boot into the USB we instead enter into the grub file.  What commands need to be entered here to successfully mount the USB to get the option of #1 installing ubermix for the first time.  The USB key works fine on the next generation of Earthwalk 14RY and sucessfully boots into the menu choices.  I'm assuming is some kind of issue with bios, but would greatly appreciate any guidance.

I appreciate any help or advice you can provide.

Using the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromUSB I try using the grub terminal to boot the USB.  If I root (hd1,0) then do chainloader +1 followed by boot I get that it encountered an error and to ctrl+alt+delete to restart.  If I use root (hd1,1) then do chainloader +1 followed by boot I get invalid executable format.

A couple of possibilities I can think of:

* The name of the USB key has been changed
* The name of the internal hard disk on the device is set to UBERMIXMy guess is it's number 1. The name of the USB key MUST be UBERMIX, or the key won't boot. If it's number 2 (which is pretty unlikely) then change the name of the hard disk in the device to something other than UBERMIX.

I positive the machine is not named the same as the USB Key, but I will check if the USB key name has changed.  I do not feel this is the issue as it boots fine in the next generation of the laptops.  There is something specific only to this one model of laptops.
